What to notice

Just the hair on top. The sides and the ends can be a different length.

Short on top: The hair on top is visibly short; this says nothing about the sides or overall hanging length.
Medium length on top: Hair on top with intermediate length, between very short hair and long hanging lengths.
Long on top: The hair on top is visibly long, independently of shorter sides or back.
